My Current Battle
by KW13 inranting individuals need not reply.
i need encouragement and general advice, personal accounts etc.. am i a christian or am i not?
i've come to a point where i'm not sure whether or not i want to believe in anything, at the moment i'm confused as to whether i am a believer or whether i am someone recovering from indoctrination.. i feel that i've not had a 'pure' opportunity to decide if i want to be a believe and although the thought has been in the back of my mind, the conditioning has made me delay it and my current circumstances and poor health are forcing me to face it - i fear facing it will make me worse because its yet another thing i am not really mentally strong enough to deal with.. is it natural i fear what being an atheist means for me.

I have excused myself from finding "the truth". Whatever I believe, that doesn't make it true. I have never found a satisfying answer to the question of suffering. That doesn't mean there may not be an answer someday.
I have allowed myself to just observe and do the best I can. It is very restful. If God wants to explain everything one day, he has my attention. Until then, I will live and let live and err on the side of mercy.

There Is No "War on Terror"

I agree there is no such thing as a "war on terror." After the end of the cold war, someone had to be declared the new enemy. I remember the fear that was instilled in children through bomb drills in elementary school. The Russians were always one step away from attacking. People had bomb shelters in their yards.
It is the classic use of "us and them." That is how the masses of people are kept in fear and under control. I doubt the people who were in Baghdad when the USA unleashed their "shock and awe" campaign, saw much difference than those who experienced the attacks on the World Trade Center.
It's a shame to promote such a climate of fear, no matter how it is done.

Do you sometimes feel really disconected from people?

now im feeling like i don't want to connect with anyone.
i'm kind of disconnecting myself from my friends even, withdrawing.

Aphrodite,
Sorry to hear you're feeling badly. My son was disfellowshipped when he was 18. It was a horrible time in my life. I still called him regularly, but didn't have a normal relationship for years. The elders kept hounding me. I am pleased to have a really close relationship with him now.
I no longer care what anyone thinks, as he is my son and I will always love him dearly. The whole crazy mess caused us both to have emotional problems. Do get some help if you want. I wish I would have gotten some many years ago.
Don't give up on your mom. Things change and a most mothers can't stand to shun their children. I know some that are very bitter that their children all chose to leave "the truth." What an abusive religion to cause such hurt. If they would only wake up and see their children are very much alive and lovable.
Best wishes to you, choosing life

The Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
by Maddie inwith the increase in evangelical churches there seems to be a lot more emphasis on the practise of "speaking in tongues".
i quite like the way these churches conduct services, with live music and great singing.
it is so different to the kh meetings and like fresh air.

I have only known one person who spoke in tongues. He went to a Pentecostal church once to please his girlfriend. He, for some reason was chosen to speak in tongues, even though he was not really religious. He said that he felt "high" while under this "influence", much like the experiences he had while using LSD. It actually scared him and he never returned to church.
I personally have no opinions on speaking in tongues, but can't help but be a little curious.

WAR IS OVER-IF YOU WANT IT
by proplog2 inchristmas is the time to talk about peace.
jesus is called the prince of peace.. john lennon and yoko ono put out posters that read "war is over - if you want it".. peace doesn't depend on scientific progress.
it certainly doesn't take prosperity and riches to have peace.

Jws may not go to war, but they cause untold damage to the foundation of all human society, the family. They think nothing of teaching mothers to disown their own children for life. They have stated in their literature that if the law allowed they would stone any who leave their religious bondage.
They look forward to the destruction of most of mankind today. They say they don't hate or judge, but they have created a "god" to do that for them. They greedily wait for the day they can plunder the belongings of others in their material paradise.
When they give up their teachings of intolerance and hatred for true diversity, then maybe they can give peace a chance?

From "Thelma and Louise", Thelma- "I guess I got a little crazy back there?" Louise-"You have always been crazy, you just never had the opportunity to really express it."
